Fisk Partners with Nashville Opera and TSU Launching the Big Blue Fellowship

Fisk is excited to announce its partnership with Nashville Opera and Tennessee State University with the launch of Big Blue Fellowship. Nashville Opera will be presenting a series of eight masterclasses that provide access and expand career opportunities for developing African-American artists.

Nashville Opera Fellows from Fisk University and TSU will have the opportunity to work with some of the most respected Black artists in the country. It is an opportunity for vocal music students interested in the classical performing arts, classical management, and classical music education to receive information that will assist them in the development of their careers.

“I am honored to be a part of this fellowship, providing to our students an opportunity many larger music schools and conservatories receive regularly and sometimes take for granted, said Gwendolyn Brown, Assistant Professor of Music. “Our vocal music classical students have the opportunity to learn from some of the more prominent African American artists, administrators and educators of classical music arts which, not only ensures continued diversity in our classical music community but serves as encouragement to our students as they work to take their place in this community.”

Project manager Patrick Dailey is working with 105 Voices of History to create a secondary cohort of HBCU students who can tune in to the live-streamed masterclasses.
